In the blink of an eye graduation week will be here. You’ve survived all the endless nights of studying, grueling exams, and insane professors, but can you survive the dreaded finals week? Soon you’ll be hitting the books harder than ever as you down more caffeine than any human should, but it will all be worth it in the end. After basically sacrificing yourself to your schoolwork, you’re going to need to let loose. Heck, you deserve to! What better way to do that than to head out the beach? There are plenty of nice hotels in Ocean City, MD, and spring break is right around the corner.
The Perfect Place to Stay
Sure, you’ll be out partying and enjoying the nightlife. Other times you’ll be relaxing on the beach and enjoying the sound of the waves, but at some you’ll be in your hotel. Nobody wants to stay at some run down, dirty, smelly place that looks like you might catch some disease just from sleeping on their sheets. Gross! It isn’t easy so splurge on a student budget, but you can still stay in a place that’s worth the money.
Skip the beachfront price hike, and opt to stay a block or two back. Not only will the beach be a short walk away, but so will the stores, restaurants, clubs, and bars. While a Jacuzzi room complete with a private balcony and Tempur-Pedic bed sounds delightful, you’d be surprised at how affordable and accommodating a standard room can be. The ones at Princess Bayside offer a refrigerator, microwave, electronic safe, and a 32″ LED flat-screen. Whether you’re nursing a hangover or just relaxing, you’ll have everything you need.
Aside from a good room, you can take advantage of the private bayfront beach, indoor heated swimming pool, free Wi-Fi, or the eco-friendly water sports center. All of which add to the stress relief you deserve after all that grueling schoolwork. Amenities make any stay that much nicer.
Plenty to Do
When you feel like going out and about for the day, Ocean City has something for everyone. You could grab a bite to eat at Finnegan’s Irish Pub & Eatery, they even have live entertainment! Make sure to check out the specials going on throughout the week (like 75cent wings and $2 domestic drafts), and their rooftop pool bar. It’s the best place to grab a drink, and a bite to eat whether it’s breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Just make sure to save some room for Maryland’s specialty, the crabcake.
The most obvious choice is, of course, the beach. There’s also Ocean City’s famous boardwalk, and all of the fabulous shops and sites along it’s 2 and a half mile stretch. You’ll be able to find any type of cuisine at the various restaurants around the city, scare houses, nightclubs, cocktail bars, and more. OC is one lively place.
For the nature lover, there’s Assateague Federal Park. This is one of the few locations in America where you can view wild horses, but it’s also home to otters, foxes, and deer. Come at the right time and you might get lucky enough to see a dolphin up close and personal. The park is breathtaking, and you can easily make a day out of it. Those looking to stay active can take a kayak tour of the bay, try out windsurfing, sailing, or indoor rock climbing. There’s more than enough here to give you a good workout while you have fun at the same time.
Now, golf isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. If you do enjoy the sport, then this is going to be the best golfing trip you’ve ever taken. There are 18 championship courses to choose from, sure to challenge even the pros. If you and a few friends are booking the trip together, then make sure to look into the golf packages at Princess Bayside. I recommend the Tour of the Shore package as it includes a round at three of these fantastic courses. If you’re looking to save a little dough, then go with the 3 Pay & 4 Play deal. Either way, it makes for the perfect, relaxing day. If professional golf is a little intimidating, you can always get your kicks at any of the awesome mini-golf courses in Ocean City.
You are at the ocean, and any fisherman knows the sea is filled with exotic catches waiting to hook themselves onto your line. Head offshore to test your luck on an exciting venture. You may just find sharks, wahoo, yellowfin tuna, bluefin tuna, bigeye tuna, or even blue and white marlin. Stay inshore and throw your lines out towards flounder, rockfish, bluefish, croaker, trout, seabass, mackarel, and more. You can even head out onto the pier for a chance to catch something truly memorable. The pier is open 24 hours a day. If you’ve never tried your hand at night fishing under the lights, it’s a spectacular experience.
