It’s around that time of year when we all start reminiscing and looking back at the past twelve months, and thinking how fast they went by… As we ring in the New Year and say hello to 2019, there is one exciting event those of us here at Princess Bayside can’t get off our minds: the annual Penguin Swim on New Year’s Day!

Get ready to dip your toes (or take a full plunge if you dare) into the ice cold Atlantic Ocean! This year marks the 25th Annual Penguin Swim, and it’s going to be a great one. The swim will take place on January 1, beginning with registration at 10am. Participants will gather on the beach in front of the Princess Royale Oceanfront Hotel located on 91st St. in town. Promptly at 1pm, registered swimmers will head into the chilly water.

Registration

To register, there is a minimum $25 donation per person–or should we say, per penguin… Participants can wear anything from a wet suit or bathing suit to a random quirky costume to the coolest penguin suit you can find!

The Penguin Swim is one of the largest fundraisers in support of the Atlantic General Hospital. Their mission is to create a coordinated care delivery system that will provide access to quality care, personalized service, and education to improve both individual and community health. Each year, hundreds of Penguins raise money to help the hospital provide quality care to the community. This year’s fundraising goal is set to $85,478.

You can participate by yourself, with your whole family, or with as many friends that you can convince to plunge into the freezing cold ocean water. Register as an individual or team here.

Along with running into the freezing cold water and giving to a good cause, there are incentive prizes! Prizes are based on participants’ personal fundraising earnings.

Prizes

With registration, you will get a short-sleeve penguin swim t-shirt.

Level A participants (raising $50-$99) will get a plush hat, water bottle, beer mug, or backpack.

Level B participants (raising $100-$249) will get a long-sleeve t-shirt or crew neck sweatshirt.

Finally, level C participants (raising $250-$499) will get a cooler bag, hoodie, or beach towel.

Any participant who raises over $500 will receive one prize from each level.

There will be awards for individuals and teams who raise the most overall money. The award ceremony for the event will be after the swim from 1:15-2pm.
