Ocean City is home to many great golf courses, and all of them are worth playing. Whether you want to play 18 holes or 9 holes, these courses offer something for everyone at every skill level. Here, we’ve compiled a list of some of our favorite courses in town:

Man O’War at GlenRiddle Farms

Only 5 miles from downtown Ocean City, the Man O’War course preserves the beauty of the historic racetrack, featuring double fairways, pot bunkers, and bentgrass tees.

The GlenRiddle Farms course has a par 72 and features 36 holes, with 7,163 yards of total length. Ocean City Golf Club, Lighthouse Sound, Eagle’s Landing, River Run or Ocean Pines are all within a 15-minute drive.

Lighthouse Sound

Lighthouse Sound is a public golf course in Ocean City, Maryland. It was designed by Arthur Hills and opened in 2000. The course has a par 72 and a slope rating of 144, with 6500 yards of total length.

At Lighthouse Sound, you get to enjoy all golf has to offer while you take in all of mother nature’s beauty. To cap it all off, this fantastic golf course hosts the longest cart bridge in the US to facilitate movement between the marsh and bay sides.

Rum Pointe

A premier, championship-quality golf course, Rum Pointe should be at the top of your bucket list. With a total of 18 holes, 17 offer a full view of the bay and its scenic views to ensure a memorable experience throughout your stay there.

This amazing golf course overlooks the Assateague National Seashore Park and is the only course in the area with bent grass on fairways and greens. The course’s unique design by Pete & P.B. Dye ensures it caters to every golfer’s needs.

Whether you’re a novice or an experienced player, Rum Pointe will meet you at your level. Fair warning, your skills will be tested!

Ocean City Golf & Yacht Club

Visit the Newport Bay and Seaside course at Ocean City Golf Club, with 36 holes of championship golf. Both courses offer stunning views, and the facility includes a 250-seat clubhouse perfect for large gatherings.

Eagles Landing

Golf with a sweeping sea view at Eagle’s Landing, a wetland adjacent course just 5 miles from Ocean City in Berlin, MD. This par-72 18-hole course features sweeping sea, land, and sky vistas, including peninsula-type tees and marsh land holes. Close to Ocean City Golf Club, Rum Pointe, GlenRiddle, and The Bay Club.

River Run

River Run Golf Club is a par-72, 18-hole golf course in Berlin, Maryland. The course was designed by Gary Player and opened in 1991.

River Run offers a great golf experience for all levels of players, with the layout featuring five sets of tees to accommodate everyone. You can enjoy a fully customized option with the Tournament Management Package.

Bear Trap Dunes

Rated among Ocean City, Maryland’s most popular golf courses, Bear Trap Dunes offers an immersive and unforgettable golf experience. With the course measuring approximately 6,901 yards, there’s a range of options for beginners and experienced golfers alike.

Enjoy unmatched coastal cuisine, the best event venues, and value-for-money membership.

Ocean Pines

Ocean Pines is among the best golf courses in Ocean City. The course has been around since 1972, and it’s easy to see why: it offers a wide variety of tee boxes and views of the ocean, making for some spectacular views (and pictures if you care to take any).

With an 18-hole course that takes about 3 hours to play through (and another hour for beginners), you can let your game get off on the right foot at this scenic course.

Nutters Crossing

Designed by Ault Clark and Associates, Nutters Crossing features among the top ten most popular public golf courses in Ocean City, MD.

This golf course features gently rolling slopes, water hazards, and bunkers for that extra challenge. And when you’re done, or as you wait for another round, enjoy the pro shop or clubhouse dining facilities.

Heritage Shores

Heritage Shores is an 18-hole championship course designed by the renowned architect Arthur Hills. The course is a par 70 and slightly over 7000 yards from the back tees.

The first hole of Heritage Shores begins with an uphill shot to a green perched over the beachfront. It has water on both sides as you play your first shot down toward the ocean below before finishing up with another uphill tee shot into an elevated green guarded by bunkers on both sides.

The second hole plays out similarly, with two deep bunkers guarding both approaches to its large green complex that sits above water level along one side of this dogleg left-hand turn-away hole.

Plantation Lakes

Featuring an exceptional Arthur Hills design, the course measures 6,661 yards from the back tees and is a par 72.

The fairways are wide-open, with large sand traps on both sides of each hole. The greens are small but fast; they keep their shape well, even under heavy rains or snowfall conditions.

If you’re looking for a naturally picturesque and challenging golf course, Plantation Lakes is for you.

People drive for hundreds of miles to get to the world-famous beaches of Ocean City, Maryland. The Boardwalk is one of the best in the country, nationally recognized in several notable newspapers and magazines, and the ocean, bay and proximity to the Assateague Island National Seashore gives beachgoers plenty of options for things to do.

The fun, however, doesn’t end when the goes down.

Ocean City is also home to dozens of incredible bars and nightclubs, from the sprawling, legendary oasis of Seacrets, to smaller and more intimate local gems like the Cork Bar. Live music is a staple at the majority of the bars throughout the busy summer season, and the craft beer movement has reached the town, meaning IPAs are now just as present as orange crushes and margaritas.

Whatever you’re looking for in nightlife, you’ll find it here at the beach.

Here are our top 10 favorite bars in Ocean City.

 – 117 49th Street – 410-524-4900 – Seacrets

About the size of a small town, Seacrets is essentially several bars and nightclubs all under one roof, including several stages and even an outdoor area where you can float on the bay in an inner tube while sipping a signature rumrunner.

The main indoor stage draws top-flight regional and national entertainment throughout the summer, and the new onsite distillery (which also offers tours) produces an original line of gin, two kinds of vodka, and three kinds of rum.

There’s nothing else in the resort quite like it, and maybe only a handful of nightclubs in the world that can boast so many and such diverse amenities. Regardless of what kind of ambiance you’re looking for, there’s likely something here that will live up to it.

Fager’s Island –

201 60th Street – 410-524-5500 – Fager’s Island

Second only in scope to Seacrets, Fager’s Island is an incredibly versatile bar and restaurant that toes the line between fine dining, dance club, and — several times per season — the host of large, local festivals.

Fager’s has long been a champion of craft brewers in the area and regularly features local standouts like Burley Oak from Berlin, Evolution from Salisbury, and Dogfish Head from Milton, Delaware. The dinner menu is a perennial award winner, and more than 30 wines are available by the glass.

Outdoor deck seating is available, and the view and entertainment at sunset are unequaled in the resort.

45th Street Taphouse

4507 Coastal Highway – 443-664-2201 – 45th Street Taphouse

The Taphouse, one of the newest venues in Ocean City, is a veritable paradise for craft-beer lovers. The bayfront dining bar boasts three dozen different craft beers on draft, with beer-inspired pub cuisines such as homemade pretzels served with Guinness mustard and Natty Boh cheese.

Assaowoman Bay Brewing Co., which brews on the premises, is also featured on draft alongside dozens of other local and regional favorites.

Coconut’s Beach Bar & Grill

3701 Atlantic Avenue – 410-289-6846 – Coconut’s

Although there are several pool bars in the resort, Coconuts is one of the largest and most popular, serving up drinks and offering live music on the patio daily.

Signature frozen drinks and a “crush” bar provide additional refreshing ways to cool off during the dog days of summer, and the pool is a refreshing change of pace once the beaches get too crowded or you’re looking to vary up your relaxation.

Buxy’s Salty Dog Saloon

2707 Philadelphia Avenue – 410-289-0973 – Buxy’s Salty Dog Saloon

Billed as a “home away from home” for Pittsburgh fans, the Salty Dog is a blue-collar paradise for Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins fans. The restaurant features plenty of beers, as well as Pennsylvania food favorites like pierogis and, of course, several takes on the “Pitts” Burgher.

M.R. Ducks

311 Talbot Street

M.R. Ducks

Just off the beach, downtown on the bayside, M.R. Ducks is a hideaway built right on the docks overlooking the bay. During the peak season, live music is a staple and the atmosphere can quickly become electric.

The bar menu includes appetizers, steamers, bar favorites, and famous wings, and the signature drink, the Chug-a-Duck, is served in a plastic duck decoy.

Cork Bar

3 Wicomico Street

Established in 1964, the enduring Cork Bar promises “the coldest beer in town.” Standard pub fare is cooked up on the grill, and pool tables, shuffleboard and electronic darts provide plenty of entertainment.

(And don’t forget to check out the jukebox, packed with enough variety to move even the most discriminating listeners to dancing.)

Shenanigan’s Bar & Grille

309 North Atlantic Avenue

Shenanigan’s Bar & Grille

Your Irish eyes will smile once you’re inside Shenanigan’s, a virtual slice of the emerald isle itself. Boxty, cockles, bangers and mash and fish and chips lend authenticity to the menu, and there’s always plenty of Guinness on tap.

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day any day — or night — of the year.

Purple Moose Saloon

108 South Boardwalk

Purple Moose Saloon

Hard-driving, classic rock & roll is the name of the game inside the Purple Moose Saloon, with live entertainment rocking the main stage every night of the week. It’s a great spot during the annual Bike Week, or any time you feel like letting your hair down and turning up to “11.”

Original Greene Turtle

11601 Coastal Highway

Original Greene Turtle

Opened in 1976, the original Green Turtle here spawned franchises across Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, Washington, D.C. and New York.

The celebrated menu includes Angus beef hamburgers, crab cakes and crabby melts, steaks, soups and salads. A separate bar menu is offered with even more house favorites, and drink specials run from 3-7 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Come see how a local favorite turned into a successful regional chain, with locations across the Mid-Atlantic and a friendly, inviting atmosphere that welcomes both residents and vacationers.

Check Out OC Nightlife!

Whatever your nightlife destination, the Princess Bayside Beach Hotel offers convenient accommodations.

Located in midtown on 48th Street, it offers guest access to a private beach, with kayaks and other water sports equipment rentable from a nearby center. A game room and attached restaurant, Finnigan’s Irish Pub & Eatery, offers seasonal entertainment, and a heated indoor pool and rooftop pool bar round out the ample amenities.

Coupons and specials are available on the website, including discounted packages for three-, four- and five-night stays, 15-25% off stays of three nights or more, and deals on dining at Finnigan’s.

Why Water Sports?

For some vacationers, a trip to the beach is prime time for a lazy day. Wading in the water, collecting seashells, and cooling out at their beach hotel. For others, a trip to the ocean presents a unique opportunity to engage in any number of adrenaline-pumping water sports.

Watersporting is one of the most adventurous activities. Most people prefer this over other activities because it’s a blast and you can often indulge with family and friends. Watersports are not only fun but also helps you stay fit and healthy. You just need to have the enthusiasm to plunge into those waters.

Those who count themselves among this group of thrill seekers have plenty to choose from. Sailing, boarding, diving, and more—the water holds something for everyone, no matter your skill level or experience. One only needs to discover which activity interests them the most. Let’s take a look at some of the hottest water sports and what makes them a favorite of so many.

Jet Skiing

Originally the brand name of a specific variety of Kawasaki water vehicle. The term “jet-ski” has become a catch-all for all the snowmobile analogs seen on the water.

Jet skis are a powerful craft. They have an output similar to some boat engines and accelerate much like a motorbike. It makes sense, then that the adventurous find them to be the perfect mode of water transport.

Anyone considering riding a jet ski should prepare themselves for an awesome experience. They should also take a few precautions. Because of their speed and power, jet skis can be hazardous in the hands of a novice. One should always don the proper safety gear and brush up on safe handling practices before taking to the water.

With a personal watercraft like a jet ski, it’s just you and a 7-10ft. floating object that is completely open. The sense of freedom out on the water allows you to enjoy what you would otherwise not be able to see all at once. Being able to look around 360 degrees without anything around you is pretty spectacular. Not many people own personal watercraft like they do other things, so it’s a real treat when you can rent one.

Imagine using a boat to carry a kite through the air. Now, replace the kite with a person attached to a parachute-like canopy. That’s parasailing.

The rider soars high above the water, taking in the majesty of the ocean. Some canopies can even accommodate two or three passengers at once.

The inspiration for the towable parachute as recreation came from an unlikely source: NASA. The space agency used the modified chute as part of survival training should pilots have to eject from aircraft over water.

After tour operators caught on to the act in the late 1960s, parasailing grew to be a common sight along coastlines drawing a crowd. New technology has followed as parasailing has increased in popularity, adding more passengers to a single ride, bringing passengers higher than they could have reached before, and of course improving the safety of the experience.

Parasails allow riders to go up as high as 600-1200 feet. It’s like being a bird without having the wings. For any that want the experience of soaring through the sky like a bird, parasailing is the activity of choice.

An increasingly popular activity. Riders take to boards, with paddles, and navigate the waters. Boards come in many shapes and sizes, and many materials as well.

If you’ve never been on a stand up paddle board (SUP), it can be hard to understand the attraction. But you’ll have to trust me when I say it is incredibly fun.

Paddleboarding is always more fun with a buddy. On the water, you’ll be closer to wildlife than ever before and there’s nothing like sharing that sensation with a close friend.

An increasing trend is iSUP, the inflatable stand up paddleboard. These inflatable vinyl or nylon boards are soft, to limit injuries for novice riders. The boards are also tough so that they can withstand the same dangers as traditional hard boards.

Stand up paddling is an incredible exercise routine. You can easily traverse +4 miles and burn 200-500 calories an hour just under recreational conditions. You will work out a variety of muscle groups and improve your core strength and balance. Best of all, this is a low-impact sport, so your joints are protected. It’s a full body workout that most other sports can’t offer.

If you want to keep it leisure, you can sit on your knees or bottom and have just as much fun.

Waterskiing & Wakeboarding

Waterskiing has been around for nearly a century. In June 1922, eighteen-year-old Ralph Samuelson of Minnesota, proposed the idea that if you could ski on snow, then you could ski on water. Ralph first attempted water skiing on Lake Pepin in Lake City, Minnesota, towed by his brother Ben. The brothers experimented for several days until Ralph discovered that leaning backwards with ski tips up lead to successful water skiing and it’s been a hit ever since.

Waterskiing and wakeboarding both make use of boats to tow people at high speeds. As the names imply, waterskiing requires riders to wear skis, while wakeboarding involves a small board (similar to snowboarding).

Both activities require strength and coordination. The adept can pull off stunts and tricks while participating – jumps, flips, turns, and more.

If you like water skiing, surfing or snowboarding, wakeboarding is a great summer sport that offers many different health and fitness benefits. And the best part is, you’re having so much fun out on the water that you won’t even realize that you are exercising!

Surfing & Bodyboarding

Both are old school water sports classics. Just about everyone has seen a video of surfers tackling monumental waves like it were a walk in the park. They’ve likely also seen less skilled surfers wiping out on baby waves in embarrassing fashion.

Surfing is highly addictive. It’s one of the most popular board sports ever invented. There are over 20 million surfers in the world, and that number continues to grow as more and more people have exposure to the sport, usually while on a vacation.

Both surfing and bodyboarding take a degree of talent to pull off right. There are entire catalogs of surfing and bodyboarding knowledge to absorb, detailing different kinds of boards, riding styles, waves, techniques, etc., but most rental places offer quick lessons to get you up on the water in no time.

To get started, though, all one really needs is a board and a grasp of the basics. Several shops along the Ocean City Boardwalk offer board rentals, including 48th Street WaterSports and K-Coast Surf Shop.

Scuba Diving

Everybody knows what scuba diving is; it is the diver with the air tank on his back and a mouthpiece. The basic scuba set-up is a tank of compressed oxygen on the diver’s back, with a line to a mouth piece. The oxygen is delivered through a mouth piece, allowing the diver to breath.

Your carbon dioxide is then either released into the water, or, in self-contained systems or rebreathers, back into the tank.

Few people actually know that scuba stands for something, however. The word scuba is actually an acronym for Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus.

Some have the notion that Scuba is difficult to grasp, but it’s fairly easy to pick up with the right instruction. There’s basic gear one will need, but for those that don’t wish to buy, equipment rental is a suitable alternative. There’s also a certification involved. It’s much less expensive than most have been lead to believe. Some courses are as little as $250.

There is no other sport or hobby more exciting or rewarding than scuba diving. Scuba diving gives you access to underwater life in a way nothing else can. Seeing things from a new perspective can provide a whole new outlook on life. Not to mention, the view underwater is amazing.

Not exactly the same as canoeing, but even more fun when one gets the hang of it. Kayaking (generally) involves the use of closed-deck watercraft that encases the rider’s legs and hips. Some kayaks incorporate a more open “sit on top” configuration. Others are inflatable and may mix elements of both.

Few activities give the outdoor enthusiast such a varied array of experiences as kayaking. Whether you are seeking the heart-stopping exhilaration of a roller coaster or the serenity and peace of getting lost in the moment, you can find your passion in a kayak.

Kayaking is a great way to traverse the water with increased maneuverability. Skilled riders can even use kayaks as a way to access diving locations that they can’t swim to readily.

Some may view sailing as an old man’s water activity. These individuals are sorely mistaken. Sailing is a very active past time that demands physical exertion from its participants. For those who really like to get involved, it can be a great form of exercise.

At the same time, there are opportunities to relax while on the water. With the right boat, you can entertain a few guests. Have a few drinks or a meal, and enjoy the serenity of being out on the open water.

Sailing is an invigorating sport that offers many rewards, not the least of which is that it’s simply so much fun. Imagine white sails billowing against a clear sky, the brisk feel of the breeze on your face, and the gentle motions of the boat as it cleanly slices through the water. Sailing aficionados often say that sailing is more than a sport—it’s a lifestyle.

Ocean swimming provides an opportunity for testing one’s physical endurance. Triathletes recognize it as one of the biggest challenges required during their events. Many consider it to be the most harrowing of the three. Anyone wishing to get in supreme swimmer shape would be hard-pressed to find an activity more demanding.

Despite the common misconception, swimming in the ocean isn’t just for elite athletes. There’s no comparison to a swimming in a pool — swimming in the ocean is much more interesting than staring at the tiles of an indoor pool. With the sun on your back and the edge of a continent close by, you’re getting a unique view that not everyone gets to enjoy. Take advantage of a “natural” pool if you can, and leave the indoor pools to the land-locked.

It’s also great for your skin, you don’t realize you’re actually exercising, you get a different experience every time and it’s free. It requires no special equipment, so anyone can plan a swim for just about any time.

Skim Boarding

Skimboarding has a rich history. What started over 60 years ago on round wood boards has evolved into a highly competitive water sport. Most people know skimboarding as “that thing you do on the sand,” and while this is true, skimboarding has become so much more than that.

A skimboard is like a smaller surfboard without the fins. Instead of paddling out to the water and catching waves in, skimboarders start at the beach, use momentum to carry themselves out to the water, then catch the breaking waves back to shore.

It takes balance, and there’s a fair share of falling involved in learning to do it right, but it’s an alternative to surfboarding that some find safer and more enjoyable overall.

Something for Everyone

Water sports are a great way to enhance one’s experience beyond the beach. Sure, the land has a lot to offer. The sea, however, holds boundless potential for some serious fun!

4 Tips for Booking a Last-minute Trip

More travelers are booking last-minute trips now more than ever. According to online travel statistics, 72% of online travel bookings via mobile devices occur within forty-eight hours of last-minute Google searches that include the words ‘today’ and ‘tonight.’

If a last-minute getaway to Ocean City, Maryland sounds amazing now, but you’re worried that planning a spur-of-the-moment trip will be stressful, worry not. Here are some helpful tips for booking a successful last-minute trip:

1. Consider Different Destination Options

There are several places you can go and things you can do on your trip. You can drop by Ocean City, Maryland, for the fantastic water sports and vibrant nightlife or spend an afternoon playing golf.

Once you arrive, be flexible. If you have a solid plan, it can cloud the possibilities and fun that come from spontaneous travel. Although it is advisable to have a plan, it shouldn’t be too detailed or set in stone.

To get the best out of your trip, you should be open to any opportunities that might come your way. Being flexible and open to several possibilities is the key to having everything go smoothly in your last-minute reservations. It can enable you to enjoy good deals as they come by.

2. Be Strategic With Booking Flights

A day or two can make a big price difference when it comes to flights. Being flexible with your departure and return dates could save you hundreds of dollars.

For instance, the day of the week you book your flight could significantly impact the amount you’ll pay for your flight. Airlines usually offer discounts for flights on certain days, so checking on these days may be worth your while.

Another way to save money when booking flights is to opt for less popular flight times. For instance, early morning flights are generally cheaper compared to flights that take place during convenient times.

3. Look for Last-minute Hotel Deals

Although you might be able to find a deal at just about any hotel last-minute, the best deals are offered by hotels with deals specifically for last-minute travelers. Such deals can help you save while enjoying an unforgettable experience.

4. Reach Out to Hotels Directly

Although you can use third-party sites to book hotels, it would be best to use them only for research and contact the hotel directly. There are several reasons why you should make your last-minute hotel reservation now. They include:

  • Some hotels have rooms set aside for third-party platforms, limiting your choices. You could have more guest room and suite options by reaching out directly.
  • Because you are not bound to the hotel by a third-party deal, hotels will be more willing to help you if you cancel or change your dates.
  • You may not qualify for loyalty program points for stays booked through third parties.
