From far and wide, people know that Ocean City is a scenic coastal travel destination with plenty to do and see all year round. Before the summer boom kicks off, however, there’s one month, May, that provides visitors with just about all of the excitement of the busy season without the massive crowds that accompany it. It’s the perfect time to rent out a few suites in Ocean City, MD and enjoy everything the town and surrounding areas have to offer before things get too crowded. What will you choose to experience once you make it here to the shore?
On The Land
Before heading over to the beach and dipping your toes in the ocean, you might want to take a few moments to enjoy some of the fabulous attractions that are available on land. Now that it’s May and the weather is starting to even out, it’s the perfect time to tackle some outdoor activities. For example, you might decide to:
Play A Few Rounds Of (Mini) Golf
Ocean City is home to more than a few putt-putt courses for you to test your swing at. There are scattered themed mini-golf varieties all around Ocean City, but the most notable of them all are the Old Pro Miniature courses, of which there are four. These facilities are a combination of indoor and outdoor courses, with different stylistic inspirations. Perhaps the Undersea Adventure Course or The Prehistoric Dinosaurs will catch your fancy? Once you’re done putting around, you can even talk to the fine folks back to your hotel and see what they can do about getting you set up on one of Ocean City’s beautiful full-sized courses.
Head To The Amusement Park
Trimper’s Rides and the Jolly Roger Amusement Park provide more than their share of carnival-style rides that you and the kids can enjoy. Both are reasonably priced, and both share a good deal of local history. The parks are well maintained, have a lively atmosphere, and offer a great warm-up (or cool down) from the excitement of the beach. Airplane rides, bumper boats, roller coasters, and more will give you more than your fair share of thrills both indoors and outdoors, so make sure you make the most of them.
Hit The Museums
Ocean City has more than a few museums for you to check out, no matter what your particular fancy might be. If it’s history you want, maybe the Ocean City Life-Saving Station Museum will be the place you find it? Located at the southern end of the Boardwalk, this spot has exhibits showcasing the development of the town and the journey of Ocean City from small fishing enclave to major tourist hotspot. If you need something to “wow” you, Ripley’s Believe It Or Not has plenty of quality displays specifically designed to stun and amaze.
Do Some Outlet Shopping
Sure, you can do some shopping on the Boardwalk, but who can resist those outlet prices? Just head north on the mainland, just past Ocean Gateway, and you’ll find this amazing assemblage of popular retail brands, ranging from Gap to Calvin Klein, open pretty much all day. More than enough time to view what they have to offer and score yourself some great deals.
At The Beach & In The Water
With a name like Ocean City, it goes without saying that there’s plenty to do at the beach and in the water. You can lounge around in the sun if you desire, or get adventurous and head out into the ocean for any number of water-related activities. Whether you’re into paddleboarding, boating, jet-skiing, parasailing, or just want to do some swimming, Ocean City provides. There are more than enough rental places for you to get the gear you need, and more than enough beach and ocean for you to spread out and have a great time.
Since Ocean City is so close to Assateague Island National Park, you can plan on heading down there for a half-day or full day of fun. View the wild horses, take a truck ride along the beach, or engage in a long nature hike or bike ride if you so choose. You’ll be hard pressed to get any closer to nature than you will here, and you’ll definitely want to bring your camera along to catch all the amazing sights you’ll see.
Once your day is drawing to a close, you’ll be ready to unwind with some nightlife. Again, Ocean City provides, courtesy of the stunning downtown. There are plenty of restaurants (many of them seafood oriented, of course) for you to enjoy a quality meal, grab a few drinks, and experience the thrill of live music and other talented performers. This is one part of the Ocean City experience that shouldn’t be missed, so be sure to check out all the venues around town to find out which one speaks to you the most.
It almost goes without saying, but your stay in Ocean City will be greatly enhanced if you find the right accommodations to recharge in when you’re not out on the town or enjoying the beach. Your choice of hotel will provide just as much in the way of relaxation as the rest of the area will provide in adventure, so remember to check those deals and find the place that will give you the most bang for your buck.
